I took my cat to the vet just this morning because he had the same symptoms. It turns out that he has a bladder infection caused by the build up of crystals. There is no way to cure the problem without drugs. The drugs you need ( antibiotics and some sort of crystal melting drugs ) can only be obtained through the vet. If you are having financial difficulties, I'm sure the vet will make some special arrangements for you. The condition is extremely painful for the cat and if not treated, can lead to complications (infections, stones, etc.) Once a cat gets this condition, you need to get a low pH urinary tract support formula and feed that to him for the rest of his life. I learned the hard way that the minute you give the cat something different, he'll develop crystals again.
he porbley has dieureua.
It might be a urinary tract infection, a kidney infection or some other internal ailment that is causing this peeing behavior. Read the information at the link below. You may be able to diagnose it on your own but, more likely than not, you may have to take him to a vet. You may be able to get a deal on vet care if you contact a vet school in your area. Or, you may be able to get a discount on care with a local SPCA program.
ummm have you gotten your male cat fixed? if not that stops it. call your vet for info as to what to do. we had a male cat that used to do that and we got him fixed and he stopped. it may cost money but you are helping your cat w/ other future health problems and saving money on cleaners cause the smell never really goes away.
Sounds like a bladder infection.

Also, if your older cat is not neutered, he may be marking his teritory so the younger kitten will know who is boss.

It might be a good idea to save up your money and go see a vet.
unfortunately you may need the vet trip. does he have plenty of fresh, clean water? if so, does he drink it? sounds like he may have a urinary tract infection. also, did the behavior start when the kitten introduced, or how long after?
Is your cat neutered? If not he might have a urinary track infection very common in male cats.I know that vet. bills can be expensive however there is a web site you can go to it is called Carecredit.com and it's a card that you can use to pay you vet. I hope your cat gets better.
i have two possible answers..he might have a urinary tract infection.or he might be marking his territory.
This happened to my cat and he had crystals in his urine. He had to stay at the vet for 4 days for IV treatment. It started like your cat and then he developed blood in his urine. I would check with a vet ASAP.
Hi, peeing inappropriately can be any number of things. It can be behavioral but I'm concerned that it soundse that has happened to a couple of my male cats over the years. It is called feline lower urinary tract disease and is caused by anything which causes stricture, obstruction, inflammation of the urethra. A very common cause is struvite crystals which build up in the urine and can cause blockage. It is caused by many regular cat food diets. I have had to switch my cats to Science Diet SD (stands for stone dissolver) otherwise he gets the problem.
Your cat;'s problem sounds like a real medical problem since he's trying but can't. If is was just behavioral, he wouldn't be straining as much. Anyway, the blockage thing is ammedical emergency. You may even see some blood in the urine. He needs to get to a vet right away. You can search online under urinary crystals cats.
Get him to a vet now! It sounds like a urinary tract infection. This happens when crystals form in a cat's bladder and make urination difficult or impossible. If it gets impossible, he will still have to urinate and his bladder can only hold so much. With nowhere else to go, the urine will back up into his kidneys causing a painful death. Only a vet can help. Do not waste time.

I'm sorry to sound so rude, but this happened to my eldest cat four years ago. I didn't know what a UTI was and just thought he was being bad. Finally, at 11pm on a Saturday night, I had to rush him to the veterinary emergency room. If I had waited even a few more hours, he would have died. I had to borrow $250 to save him. It would have been cheaper if I had realized what was going on earlier and taken him to a vet in the daytime.

btw, stress can cause these crystals to form in the bladder. In the case of my eldest cat, we had just moved. In the case of your cat, it may be the new addition to your household.

Since you don't have much money, the following link may help you. Good luck!
