UPDATE and ACTION ALERT!

Please Help
Legislative
Task Force starting work
to help
Pit-bulls!

Hi Krista,

Many of our legislators have responded positively to your calls and emails asking for their help with a legislative remedy to the Tracey v. Solesky ruling that says pit-bulls and pit-bull mixes are "inherently dangerous." While we were not successful in getting legislation on the agenda for the 1st special session of the Maryland General Assembly we are making significant progress. THANK YOU, you are being heard---and NOW YOU NEED TO BE SEEN at the only public meeting of the Pit-bull Task Force on Tuesday, June 19, 2012!

Speaker Michael Busch and Senate President Mike Miller have created a Legislative Task Force to look into a solution to the Tracey V. Solesky ruling. Please join MVFA and fellow animal advocates at the Task Force Meeting to show your support!

Here are the details:

When: Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 10:00
Where: Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee
Miller Senate Office Building, Room 2E
11 Bladen Street
Annapolis, MD 21401

Members of the Task Force are as follows:

Senators:
Brian Frosh (D-Montgomery) Brian.Frosh@senate.state.md.us
Lisa Gladden (D-Baltimore) Lisa.Gladden@senate.state.md.us
Joseph Getty (R-Carroll) Joseph.Getty@senate.state.md.us
Jamie Raskin (D-Montgomery) Jamie.Raskin@senate.state.md.us
Norman Stone (D-Baltimore Cnty) Norman.Stone@senate.state.md.us

Delegates:
Curt Anderson (D-Baltimore) Curt.Anderson@house.state.md.us
Eric Bromwell (D-Baltimore County) Eric.Bromwell@house.state.md.us
Benjamin Kramer (D-Montgomery) Benjamin.Kramer@house.state.md.us
Heather Mizeur (D-Montgomery) Heather.Mizeur@house.state.md.us
Michael Smigiel (R-Cecil) Michael.Smigiel@house.state.md.us

If your legislator sits on the Task Force, please contact them to ask for a quick remedy to the pit-bull ruling even if it's an interim fix that can be put on the agenda for the 2nd special session. Here's some wording that you can paste into your email:

Dear Senator or Delegate ____________:

I am writing to express my support of the Task Force that will be developing a legislative solution to the Tracey v.Solesky ruling that determined that all pit-bulls and pit-bull mixes are "inherently dangerous."

Please quickly develop an interim solution that can be passed in the 2nd special session this summer. This first step will give the Task Force enough time to work out a comprehensive solution to dog bites in Maryland --- a solution that does not unfairly target one breed of dog but places more weight on responsible dog ownership.

Sincerely,
your name
