Caution with Commercial Treats and Pet Food, Pet Treat and Food Recalls

Pets love treats, but they are not always safe. Here are some treats that have been recalled in the US in the past four months. In order to make this list, the FDA had to notice—that’s hundreds of sick pets.

Pet and farm animal food has also been recalled in last four months:

  • Warning, not recall: Tear Stain Removers Angels’ Eyes, Angels’ Glow, Pets’ Spark, Glow Groom, Health Glow

Think of how many times you have had food poisoning and have not reported it. If only one of a hundred reports food-related illness, then you know how many pets became ill before it was reported and the FDA took notice.

Think of the pets that died from unexplained kidney or liver disease, which can be cause by treats containing bacteria, mold, toxins or excessive levels of micronutrients.

Pay attention if you choose to feed commercial treats and pet foods, or begin making your own.
