How to Groom a Persian Cat

Persian cats have the most fur out of any cat around. They often need extensive care with grooming and are easy to brush, because of their mild temperament and willingness to be groomed. These cats love this attention, and you will find that they are ready to be groomed again and again, countless times. Persian cats require a good steel grade brush to remove the undercoat to thin them out, while leaving the top coat healthier and leaving them to shed less. Doing this type of grooming will leave their fur beautiful and angelic to look at. Amazing little creatures! This cat is a trophy cat if groomed often and has a look of elegance. The Persian cat is a very popular breed, but needs to be cared for and in return will give you the look and obedience of showmanship, just by this cats knowledge of being taken care of. Persian cats KNOW they're beautiful. What a great breed to own!

1. Buy a good steel grade brush (steel thistles not too far apart)

2. Learn how to hold your cat while brushing until he is comfortable with you.

3. Once mastering your technique of holding your cat, you can brush.

4. Keep brushing the cat over and over again until all undercoat is gone. Usually you can tell how easy it becomes by brushing the cat without any snarls and how much fur is on brush.

5. When there is hardly anymore fur on the brush after going over the coat many times, that means the undercoat is removed.

6. Once the undercoat is removed the top coat is healthier and calls for less grooming when taken care of every 3 weeks.

7. Around the anal area, take small scissors and cut the fur around the anus to clear away fur that can easily attach feces to it. Persians are often known to have feces stuck around the anal area, and can be prone to infections, because of the amount of fur that the feces sticks to. They need this cleaned every 3 weeks, even if you don't brush them entirely.

8. Use scissors or grooming clippers to cut fur around the back area of the legs near the anus. Keeping feces clear of the anal area.
