Tramway Service Station

The Tramway Gas Station, a former Enco service station, in Palm Springs, California, is located at the corner of Tramway Road and California State Route 111. The building, erected in 1965, with its distinctive, cantilevered, wedge-shaped canopy was designed by Albert Frey and Robson C. Chambers. It is considered to be a prime example of desert modern architecture. Frey was known for his use of simple materials, the building is constructed out of concrete block, steel, and glass.

The station had closed by the mid-1990s and is now operated by the Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism as the Palm Springs Visitor Center. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015 and is open to the public.
