Aston Martin Racing Ready for Wild West Shootout at COTA
The FIA World Endurance Championship is ready for action in the Wild West; as the 6 Hours of Circuit of The Americas is set to take place this weekend in Austin, Texas.
After winning last time out in Mexico with the #95 V8 Vantage GTE, Nicki Thiim and Marco Sorensen will be hoping to continue that run of form this week and repeat last year’s victory in Austin; a result that catapulted their 2016 championship bid.
Thiim said prior to the weekend, “Austin holds a lot of good memories for us. Marco and I took our first win together here last year and both the circuit and the city of Austin are a lot of fun. Our partners have worked very hard to make sure we’re able to fight for victories this year and I want to thank both Dunlop and Total for everything they have done for us. I hope we can reward them again for their efforts again this weekend”.
Sorensen added, “We’re very much looking forward to getting back to Austin for this weekend. Aston Martin Racing is only 22 points behind in the manufacturers’ championship and both Nicki and I in #95 and our teammates in the #97 are only 27 points away from the GT Drivers championship lead too. There’s still a maximum of 104 points available, so we must fight hard for points now right until the end of the season”.
The sister #97 V8 Vantage GTE is to be piloted again by the trio of Darren Turner (GB), Daniel Serra (BR) and Jonny Adam (GB), while Paul Dalla Lana (C), Pedro Lamy (P) and Mathias Lauda (A) will pilot the #98 V8 Vantage GTE in the GTE Am class.
Paul Howarth, Aston Martin Racing Team Principal said, “First and foremost, I want to say that we wish the state of Texas a smooth and quick recovery from the recent storms that they’ve endured, particularly in the Houston area.
With regards to our performance in Mexico, we were extremely pleased with the result and that’s a testimony to the hard work of our crew and our partners. Marco and Nicki drove brilliantly and I know they’re more motivated than ever now to keep our championship fight on track”.
The 6 Hours of Circuit of The Americas begins at 12:00 local time on Saturday 16 September.
