Omega 3 Fatty Acids Proven Benefit for heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, depression
Researchers at Tufts-New England Medical Center identified almost 50 studies that demonstrate benefits of Omega 3 fatty acids on the heart and brain. A summary of the benefits was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (AJCN) and suggests those with the following diseases can benefit from vitamins and Omega 3 fatty acids:
- heart disease,
- diabetes,
- rheumatoid arthritis and
- depression.
How helpful were Omega 3 fatty acids to those with these diseases?—so helpful that many reduced or stopped taking prescription medications. Editors of the AJCN suggested most Americans consume diets deficient in Omega 3 fatty acids and will benefit from supplementation. Two of the biggest sources of fatty acids are cold-water fish and flax seed.
Just as people with heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and depression benefit from Omega 3 fatty acids, pets with these diseases will also benefit from Omega 3 fatty acids.
